In his lessons Simone tries to incorporate not only the technical aspects of playing but also the creative ones. His students are encouraged to experiment with composition and improvisation even from early stages.
Especially with young students he likes to incorporate games and Dalcroze activities in his classes; this way the learning environment becomes fun and the kids can make connections between music and movement.
Classes
In his general music classes Simone tries to differentiate between activities of reading and solfege and creative activities such as composing or building musical instruments. He encourages the connections between music and movement through different music and movement activities. Simone always tries to draw from any music of the world in order to expose the students to the beauty of the different cultures that surrounds us.
Brass Classes
Simone teaches also brass classes for different levels. Even for beginners brass classes can be a fun way to share music with others and learn not only how to play an instrument but also how to play in an ensemble. While it teaches young learners the discipline of learning an instrument it also allows them to experience music as being part of a band.
In the development of trumpet technique Simone focuses on air and breathing, and how to find ways to teach the body how to play something hard through images rather than thinking to move or activate a specific muscle.
Simone encourages the students to explore different styles with a lot of stress on learning by ear and ear training. In parallel to the practice of technique he wants the student to practice songs, and spurs them to try composing and improvising.
The practice of the trumpet is always directed towards a final performance or concert where the students can share with each other and their families what they have been learning.
